Injuries...

I am not one who is prone to injury. I've never broken a bone and never torn a ligament. I'm a blessed man.

Last Thursday, though, God humbled me with a broken big toe. How? During Tae Kwon Do class, I was instructed to do a left front kick to the heavy bag. "No problem.", I thought. I was having a wonderful lesson: My kicks were snapping and powerful. My punches could've knocked out a heavy weight fighter. I was relaxed and not as stiff as previous classes.

But I forgot one key component with my left foot; I forgot to pull my toes back. So, I slammed my big left toe into the heavy bag with as much power as I could muster. Yes, it snapped like a twig. At first, I thought I had jammed my toe and kept on with the class. By Friday, it was black and blue all over.

And through it all, I've laughed. I even sparred on Friday night, with a broken toe, and had fun. I'm thankful to a God who teaches us, in small lessons, to "lighten" up when trials occur. Besides, laughter is the best medicine.

From a person who was very injury prone when younger, let me just point out that this is the time to milk it. Any time you find yourself in need of something, remember to preface it with "Honeeyyy?"

Did you call a "TOE" Truck? :)

Both you guys know my wife...do you honestly believe I'm going to get much sympathy?

I believe her exact words were, "Well, why didn't you pull your toes back?"

And, yes, the 'toe' truck did come. It ran over my toe again, then left.

poor mark. awww, do you need some sympathy? Ha! You are too much! I hope your toe gets to feeling better. Thanks for sharing. I keep thinking the word cute, but I also keep thinking what is so cute about a broken toe? I guess the fact you are laughing about it and telling us how your wife reacted is what makes it so cute. Get well soon! Um, Do I hear a backup beeper? Look out the toe truck is back! LOL!

I'm going to assume you kicked a heavy bag designed for boxing. Those things are definite toe-breakers. Even if you curled your toes up, you still may have done some damage. Boxing bags just aren't made for kicks. Personally I like working kicks on pads. Feel better.
